SSC 6640 - Disability:Phil,Hist,Soc Persp
This interdisciplinary course will examine how our society treats the people with disabilities from a critical perspec tive. It will examine the legal rights of the disabled, the disability rights movement, and ethics of many controversial practices. It will place current debates in historical context with special attention to the ways in which people with disabilities have suffered stigma and prejudice. The course will study work in the academic disciplines of philosophy, political science, history, law, sociology, aesthetics, media studies, as well as the current practices of social activism.
