SSC 6608 - Alt Conc Political Community
This is a course in the history of western political thought as it pertains to alternative conceptions of political community. It will cover the political ideas of the Greeks, Christians, Modern era theorists, and contemporary political thought. Authors, such as Plato, Aristotle, St. Augustine, Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, the American founders, Mill, Marx, Nietzsche, and Rawls will be considered in evaluating the scope of ideas that influence current political thought. The breadth of ideas examined in this course (such as liberty and justice) is intended to comport with the interdisciplinary aim of the liberal studies program.
