LIT 6636 - Creative Nonfiction Writing
This course is a graduate workshop in the writing of creative nonfiction (memoir, autobiography, personal essays, and/or subjective criticism). We will study various examples of creative nonfiction in depth to analyze their tecniques and methodology, focusing on both classic and contemporary works. We will practice various creative nonfiction writing techniques through exercise and imitation. The bulk of the class will consist in the students' development of a substantial portfolio of creative nonfiction writing (such as a memoir or autobiography, or a collection of personal essays and/or subjective critical pieces). Portions of this portfolio will be workshopped in class and revised over the course of the semester. Students will be expected to provide clear and specific feedback to their peers to help in the revision process.
