ECN 4291A - Departmental Honors Economics
Students will prepare a high-quality written study (or studies) demonstrating a high level of proficiency in the following skills important for success in conducting independent original economic research: conducting a comprehensive review of the literature related to the student's research topic in professional economics journals, government, and private-sector reports, as well as other appropriate sources; formulating an original research question/topic/hypothesis that will advance the boundaries of knowledge of the special- ization in economics within which the student is conducting research; testing/probing/analyzing comprehensively the student's question/topic/hypothesis; and providing evidence demonstrating the originality of the student's research, including a conclusion. Permission of the instructor is required. Students must have a 3.7 GPA overall, and have 18 credits in economics (ECN) coursework with a 3.7 GPA in them as well. Students are strongly urged to direct appropriately their economics coursework toward their anticipated honors project. Prerequisites: 18 credits of ECN courses (15 credits of which must have been earned at Dowling); Senior Status with a total of 85-90 credits completed; and an overall GPA of 3.7 of higher, with the same GPA requirement across all ECN courses taken.
